Otter Falls

This trip, 75 minutes from Winnipeg, features scenic vistas to rival any in Manitoba's Canadian Shield.  Departing from Otter Falls Campground in Whiteshell Provincial Park, we skirt many islands, large and small, in search of that perfect photo.  After a brief rest stop at the source of the Pinawa Channel, we continue to "English River", actually an estuary on the Winnipeg River system. Stretch your legs and take a short hike to the Whiteshell Cross-Country Ski Club cabin for lunch, then paddle farther up the estuary where deer and loon sightings are common.

Learn how to "tack" against the Winnipeg River current as we return to Otter Falls and explore a ghostly beaver pond for a rare peek at a blue heron rookery. Binoculars are recommended.

Refresh your weary paddling muscles at one of Otter Falls' beaches before heading off to dinner at Otter Falls Resort or Riverview Lodge.
